|The idea for Tercero wines surfaced a number of years back. Larry Schaffer had been in the educational and trade publishing industry for a number of years and had achieved all he had set out to do. It was time for a change . . . . but to what? Larry’s dreams of becoming a professional volleyball player were never going to happen (heh heh heh), so he looked towards something he had always been interested in but never understood completely – winemaking. One thing that really interested him was the ‘why’ involved – how in the heck do you start with a grape and end up with this wine? Or that one? He needed to know more – and he needed to challenge his brain. Read more on our website at Tercero Wines|

|Like so many other adventures, NZ Wine Navigator began with friends, family, and a few excellent bottles. Graham Painter, our Founder (that’s him in the pic), was visiting family in the States and was sent out on the oh-so-common task of fetching a nice wine for dinner. Wanting to show off some of our fine Kiwi wines, he went from one wine shop to the next searching for something beyond the big-name NZ Sav Blancs. A deep, rich Pinot or Syrah? How about a superb Riesling? Surely, with the breadth of fine wines being produced in New Zealand, there was something special to be found.
That search beget a mission.
|Ascension Cellars began when two friends, Erick Allen and Brian F. Sauls, were enjoying a glass of wine together one summer day. “You know, this is good,” they said, “but there is something missing.” And so, the quest for something better began. They wanted elegance, body, and boldness in their wines. They wanted wines that they would be proud to offer to their family and friends. What followed was good fortune by the barrel. Vast support came not only from knowledgeable mentors in Lake Arrowhead, who have been making wine together for decades, but also from family, friends and other winemakers. All were the inspiration for two friends who simply aspired to make a wine that matters.|

|Here in Coombsville the soils are a result of volcanic eruptions that occurred some three to five million years ago. The rhyolite tuffs and andesite breccias heaved from the earth are the parent material for nearly all of the soils in these parts. These soils, in turn, have undergone uplift, dispersion and erosion over many thousands of years.
The Vaca Mountains, which form the backdrop of Coombsville, were forced up by plate tectonics, taking layers of sediment up with them. When they reached a height they could no longer sustain, the hillsides came crashing down into the flats. This is the land we farm.
If you think of a vineyard as a vessel for extracting flavor from soil, then what you get when you sip a glass of wine is a taste of Earth’s history.

|We always had a desire to live in the country. So in 2001, we jumped at an opportunity to purchase an old farm house built in 1926- complete with 18 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon in the Lodi Appellation. In 2004, we added another varietal, Pinot Grigio. That was the beginning of MY Green Vineyards, LLC. For many years we made wine for home use with family and friends. From the time we first purchased the property we always thought it would make a great winery and tasting room location. So in 2009, we applied for our winery license and began production with our first vintage. We did this via an alternating proprietor ship with Estate Crush in Lodi. We continue to use this team for our wine producing processes.|
|Chad and Linda, sharing an unbridled enthusiasm for fine food and wine followed their hearts to wine country, tasting and touring around the globe. They only imagined living the dream in the countryside, getting back to their roots; riding their horses, tending their garden, loving the land and growing and harvesting grapes. After the two married in 1998 Chad and Linda Kearns connected with best friends and fellow philanthropists Michael and Donna Cipolla to make wine. As hobby wine makers Michael now jokes with Chad, “The first year we taught them and the second year they taught us.” That was the year that Chad put his doctorate in Pharmacy to the test using his background in chemistry to take a winning medal for their 2001 Zinfandel at the OC Fair.|
